Famous Dancer and a Famous Singer

Článek jsem zveřejnila 29.6.2018 Seznam článků

Last English lesson was very special with a musical programme. The two musical interpreters who made the class different were Michael Flatley and Dionne Warwick. Let’s read what was going on in the class.

The students discussed the tailored article about Michael Flatley and Dionne Warwick. Then they filled in the missing gaps in the songs by Dionne Warwick and the Gospel’s Choir while listening to speaker boxes. Then they watched a couple of beautiful videos by Flatley, Warwick and the Gospel’s Choir. They were allowed to sing and dance if they wanted to. Finally, they got a heart chocolate medal as a treat for being my special clients.

By the way, the Gospel’s Choir sang the song „Stand by me“ at the royal wedding of Princ Harry and Meghan Markle. The video that linked to this song was astonishing and students could watch it via projector on a big screen.

And what was the article about which was distributed among students?
Here you go.

Michael Ryan Flatley (*July 16, 1958) is a former Irish-American dancer, choreographer and musician. Flatley was born in Chicago. He is of Irish origin. His parents were both born in Ireland, but emigrated to the United States in 1947.

He became known all over the world for Irish dance shows Riverdance, Lord of the Dance and Feet of Flames. More than 60 million people in 60 countries have seen his shows, which have earned over $1 billion. Flatley created Riverdance in 1994 and introduced Irish-style dancing to a huge audience.

Flatley says: “I feel like a tiger. There’s nothing impossible if you get up and work for it.”
(Flatley říká: “Cítím se jako tygr. Nic není nemožné, pokud se zvedneš a “makáš”.)

Marie Dionne Warwick (*December 12, 1940) is an American singer and actress. Marie Dionne Warwick was born in New Jersey. Her parents were both African American. She also has Native American, Brazilian and Dutch ancestors. She is the cousin of Whitney Houston, who died in 2012.

Warwick passionately loved music and studied at the Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Connecticut. Warwick belongs to the 40 biggest hit makers of the rock era. One of her famous song is I Say A little Prayer. In 1969, Hana Zagorová sang the same song called Seju vítr do tvejch snů or Helena Vondráčková sang the same song Proč mě nikdo nemá rád.

On September 14, 2018, she will sing in Prague Congress Centre.

Warwick says: “I come from a singing family and as is said, the apple does not fall far from the tree.”
(Warwick říká: “Jsem z hudební rodiny, jak se ale říká, jablko nepadá daleko od stromu“.)
