J.R.R. TOLKIEN

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) is a famous1 English writer. He is also a professor at Oxford University.

Tolkien’s hobby is writing. He likes fantasy stories. He even creates new languages and a world, which is full of heroes2 and incredible adventures. He calls the world Middle-earth.

His first popular book is The Hobbit. It’s about a small man called Bilbo. He doesn’t like adventures, because he likes eating, drinking and his small house. But in the end, he has to leave his home, and he even3 fights a dragon.

After The Hobbit, Tolkien writes The Lord of the Rings, a longer epic4 story about great adventures, battles5, friendships (pl.)6 and love. Frodo, Bilbo’s nephew7, tries to destroy an evil8 ring in the story.

The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings are the most selling novels in the world.

There is also a new film called Tolkien. It is from the year of 2019, and it is about Tolkien’s life. But Tolkien’s grandchildren don’t like the film, because there are a lot of untrue events in it.
