Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born in 1926.Of course, her official title is Queen Elizabeth II, and this year she will be 92 years old.She has been on the throne since her coronation in 1953.The Queen’s life is very different from the life of most people. As a girl, she studied music and art and also liked drama and swimming. She did not go to school with other children – instead, she had private lessons at home.
She married Prince Phillip at the age of 21.They have four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward, as well as eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with two more expected in 2018.The Queen has little contact with the media and does not give interviews.
When she isn’t performing her public duties, the Queen loves spending time with her Corgi dogs – she has owned more than 30 Corgis in her lifetime. As well as this, she likes watching horseracing and enjoys photography.
During her reign, the Queen has visited 129 countries and received more than three million letters and emails. She
has also received some very unusual presents, including a jaguar from Brazil. And, according to an old law, she is the
owner of every dolphin and whale swimming in the seas around Britain.
The Queen will probably remain on the throne for the rest of her life. The next monarch might be her oldest son,
Prince Charles, or maybe it will be her grandson Prince William (the son of Prince Charles and the late Princess
Diana).
Although some British people would like their country to be a republic and not a monarchy, the Queen is more popular than any prime minister in British history.
