Easter

Článek byl vydán 13. dubna 2017

Easter is coming and my English lesson was partly dedicated to this holiday. Seniors love to bake lamb, Easter bread or decorate eggs. Let’s have a look what the tailored distributed text was about.

In the Czech Republic, Easter Monday is celebrated in a special way.
On Sunday, girls decorate hard boiled eggs.Boys make whips with eight fresh willow canes.Early on Monday morning, the boys visit the girls and whip them to give them freshness from the canes. It shouldn’t hurt much! The girls say thanks to the boys and give them a decorated egg, and a ribbon on their whips. The boys want to have big whips with many colourful ribbons!.

Easter Sunday is an exciting day for American children, who look forward to the traditional Easter egg hunt.  Many families will hide plastic eggs containing candy or pocket change around their home, both inside and out, and the children will search all over to find them.
Many families also have a traditional of coloring Easter eggs.  This is done by taking hard-boiled eggs and dipping them in color dyes.  After the eggs have dried, paint is used to draw designs on the eggs, allowing children (and parents as well) to show their creativity.
The Easter Bunny is to Easter. He comes and brings the Easter eggs to all the good children.Kids can go meet him and take a picture with him.
Then there is the traditional Easter supper, which usually takes place in the middle of the afternoon and often consists of ham, pasta (often stuffed shells), clams, and sweet potatoes, followed by coffee and cake (fantastic is crumb coffee cake by Entenmann’s – Easter dessert, the variety with the crunchy crumbs and powdered sugar on top).  It is a wonderful time for families to spend together and enjoy each other’s company.

Easter in Britain began long before Christianity.
Many theologians think that Easter is named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess of the dawn and spring - Eostre. On Easter Sunday people give chocolate Easter eggs as presents.Parents tell their children that the Easter rabbit brings the eggs and hides them in the garden. The kids then have to run around the garden with baskets looking for these eggs. The one who finds the most is the winner (this is called Egg Hunt).
