FIGURE SKATING

Figure skating is one of the most popular winter sports and one of the disciplines to be included in the first Winter Olympic Games in 1924 in Chamonix, France. Figure skating fans will enjoy the best figure skaters from Europe at the European Championship in Gratz, Austria starting on January 22nd.  

FIGURE SKATING.

Figure skating was the first winter sport of the Olympic Games.  Men and women skate¹ and make jumps and spins².  There are different disciplines in figure skating, for example singles³, pairs⁴ and ice dance.

Sonja Henie from Norway was a big star in the world of figure skating in 1930s.  She won the Olympic Games three times and people loved her beautiful skating.

In the 1980s, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean from Britain were the best ice dancers in the world.  They have gold Olympic medals from Sarajevo in 1984.

During the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, people admired⁵ Yuna Kim from South Korea.  She was charming and elegant, like a ballerina⁶ on ice.

Between the 22nd and the 26th of January 2020, we can watch the best figure skaters from Europe at the European Championship in Gratz, Austria.
