SATURN, KING OF THE MOONS

There are nine planets in our solar system but only one of them is known as „king of the moons“ - Saturn. Scientists discovered 20 new moons and each of them is at least 5 kilometres long. Now, people can compete to name them after giants from Scandinavian mythology.

There are nine planets in our solar system.  And Saturn is the planet with the most moons¹.  Astronomers found² twenty new moons that run around Saturn, which now has 82 moons.  Jupiter has 79.  Each of the new moons is at least 5 kilometres long.  Seventeen of them run around Saturn backwards³.  They make one complete orbit⁴ around Saturn once every three years.

An astronomer says: „We don’t think they are as old as the planet.  We think the planet captured⁵ them in the past.“  He thinks Saturn sucked in a mixture of gas and dust to create the moons.  He also says: „We think these are the last parts of material that created Saturn.“ The moons will get a name in a competition⁶.  They will have names of giants⁷ from Scandinavian mythology.
